When To Pump Your Hoot Septic Treatment System

When to hoot

The volume of household usage will determine how often you should pump your Hoot System. Occasional septic pumping is recommended to keep your Hoot healthy and ensure proper wastewater treatment for years to come.

Over time, your system's trash chamber will naturally develop a scum layer (surface of the sewage) and a sludge layer (bottom of the trash chamber). We recommend pumping and cleaning your system when the solids (scum/sludge combined) in your trash chamber's exceed 25% of the chamber's total capacity.

Your system's trash chamber holds 520 gallons and is approximately 52 inches high. When your trash chamber's solids exceed ~ 15″ combined, we recommend that your system be pumped.

The processing chamber holds approximately 920 gallons and should have about 300 gallons removed (1/3 of the contents) at the same time the trash chamber is pumped.

Approximately 1,000 to 1,100 gallons are pumped from a HOOT System.

Periodic pumping of the solids is critical to ensure that there is adequate space in the trash chamber for the liquids to be stored before passing into the processing chamber. It's important to note that too much build-up of solids in the trash chamber can result in solids spilling over into the processing chamber. Which then will also need to be pumped and cleaned.

Using your garbage disposal frequently can significantly increase the levels of sludge and scum in your tank, which could mean more frequent pumping. Limiting garbage disposal use will greatly reduce the amount of grease and solids that enter the system.
